"The red oak was my personal favorite: beefy, warm bell tone, very dry, articulate attack, controlled snare response. The yellow heart seems the most extreme: some of the body and tone of the red oak, but sharper, and tons of snare response. The pecan was the most reserved of them, but also the most "snarey" in that its shell tone has quick decay, revealing more snare snap. The snare response is sensitive like the yellow heart, but the attack on top is dry and articulate like the red oak. It only barks a little when rimshot, almost like it's got an o-ring on it. I think this would be perfect for guys who don't play loudly but want a snare as lively as a controlled drum can be."
